[Marxism] jesse jackson

I was thinking about Jackson's criticism of the Kerry campaign - it
helps him and it helps Kerry.  Jackson gets to look like the militant
champion-of-the-people Democratic leader, and he draws people,
including blacks, angry workers, etc, into the Kerry campaign by
providing it with a more militant, critical, rebellious face.  He
isn't telling people they should go vote for Nader, but he _is_
implying populists can have a voice under the umbrella of the DP.
Kerry doesn't have to make any concessions to Jackson on questions of
programme, he knows Jackson won't defect to a third party, and will
bend over backwards to boost the Democrats every time.
Hegemony operates so perfectly sometimes one can mistake it for a
vast, intricate conspiracy.
