Friends,

Next Friday, 9/24, Local 32-BJ will host a multi-union fundraiser for 
theupcoming MILLION WORKER MARCH. I would hope that everyone on this list has 
by now heard about the March, which will occur in Washington DC on Oct 17. This 
action has rapidly grown and been endorsed by many unions and other activist 
organizations. My union, DC 1707, was among the earliest to not only endorse 
the March, but to actively engage in its organizing. The March was developed by 
brothers and sisters in San Francisco's ILWU, a union with a wonderfully 
radical history, as it was founded by Harry Bridges. Currently, ILWU, USWA, the 
Teamsters, many SEIU locals including 32-BJ, and a great many others, in 
addition to DC 1707 are actively involved. The issues the Million Worker March 
are addressing include the need for a massive jobs program, a full right to 
organize, anend to corporate rule of government, increased minimum wages, full 
health insurance, a defense of social security, a defense of civil rights, 
especially the rights of Arabs and Muslims, money for housing and schools---not 
war, and an immediate withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. As the organizers 
have said: "marching is as important as voting...fighting back together is 100 
times better than suffering alone!" This action will be the most important 
Labor action in preparation for the most important election of our lifetime.

Million Worker March organizers want to be sure that everyone who wants to 
march, can get to DC to do so. We need to encourage everyone to attend. In 
order to do so, they are holding this fundraiser to pay for the many buses 
needed. The evening will feature many performers (I am proud to add that I wil 
be among those onstage) as well as some terrific food and much discussion on 
this all-important issue.
