[Marxism] Midwestern Socialist History
Can someone enlighten me or direct me to literature
explaining the history of the socialist movement in
the Midwestern U.S.? I am aware that Terre Haute,
Indiana was home to a large socialist faction in the
late 1800s and early 1900s. Indianapolis was the city
that hosted the first Socialist Party USA convention.
The Midwest is still home to the nation's auto
manufacturing and auto parts distribution. Companies
such as DaimlerChrysler, GM, Delphi and Ford employ
hundreds of thousands of UAW members. The legendary
Jimmy Hoffa was born in Indiana and whose mother was
an immigrant from Eastern Europe went on to form one
of the most powerful labor unions in the nation. Gary,
Indiana was at one time a large steel-producing city
but after decades of layoffs it's only a shell of what
it used to be.
Comradely,
=====
