Stuart Lawrence, possibly engaging in his oft pastime of bear-baiting,
writes on Marxism that  ". . . the NRA appears to work from the premise
that the Second Amendment is a propaganda tool of minimal real
significance, and that the real battles have to be fought in the Congress
and state legislatures, where the NRA is a potent pressure group, and
where compromise is key to long-term effectiveness."

I believe the last time Bro Lawrence and I disagreed on something, he
was displeased with the traditional Navajo law and practice that approves,
on the grounds of self defense, the killing of proven witches and their
leg persons -- skinwalkers -- in the vast Navajo [Dine' / Dineh] Nation.
Of course, I support the Dine' as I always do.

The NRA's devotion to the Second Amendment is too well known to
spend time with at 3:30 am Idaho time.  It turned back the virulent
Clinton/Gore witch hunt against guns and gun rights and increased
its membership to around four million.

I suggest William James on principled pragmatism -- or at least the
relevant sections of TH. Flournoy's The Philosophy of William James
[New York:  Henry Holt & Company, 1917.]

Or, take out a sub to The American Rifleman.
