Fw: [Marxism] A book on 1930s in USA

I'll second Mike Davis recommendation. Plus Art Preis, Labor's Giant
Step.
Then from the other side, Schlesinger's series on the depression and New
Deal (Crisis of the Old Order, Making of the New Deal...)

The suggestions mentioned by others are all fine. You might want to check
out
"Prisoners of the American Dream" by Mike Davis, Part 1: Labor and
American
Politics (the book's 1st half). It covers "American Labor and the
Democratic
Party," as Ch.2, part 1. Davis' style is a bit elliptical, but he makes
a
strong and compelling argument as is the case with all his work. My own
opinion is
that the 1st half of "Prisoners," is his best writing ( since then, Davis

writes postmodern urban dystopic stuff). HIs newer stuff is still quite
good but
for ? of the 30s it's very good-- esp. if read in conjunction w/ other
things
like Farrell Dobbs' Teamster series as F. Feldman pointed out..
