[Marxism] A book on 1930s in USA
The suggestions mentioned by others are all fine. You might want to check out
"Prisoners of the American Dream" by Mike Davis, Part 1: Labor and American
Politics (the book's 1st half). It covers "American Labor and the Democratic
Party," as Ch.2, part 1. Davis' style is a bit elliptical, but he makes a
strong and compelling argument as is the case with all his work. My own opinion
is
that the 1st half of "Prisoners," is his best writing ( since then, Davis
writes postmodern urban dystopic stuff). HIs newer stuff is still quite good but
for ? of the 30s it's very good-- esp. if read in conjunction w/ other things
like Farrell Dobbs' Teamster series as F. Feldman pointed out..
