RE: [Marxism] Getting rid of Adware

I've downloaded Ad-adware from www.lavasoftusa.com and am trying it
out now. The professional edition and 'RegHance', a registry watcher and
cleaner are offered in a $40 package. I think it is well worth buying this
kind of program and spreading the word about them.

"Ad-AwareR SE Professional Edition offers you the highest level of
protection from known Data-mining, aggressive advertising, Parasites,
Scumware, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers,
and tracking components."

Pop-ups are old news but I only became aware of this new menace a
few weeks ago when my browser seemed to go berserk--a browser hijacker had
installed itself. In my local supermarket one of the staff had been stung by
a dialer program and got a big phone bill.

Clickspring and the like should be regarded as criminal
organisations. Why would anyone want to install this kind of software on
their computer voluntarily?

Worst of all they waste the most precious and irreplaceable
thing--time. How many thousands of hours are wasted worldwide dealing with
this, plus spam and viruses?

These things are a curse. One day I'll get back to doing what I want to do.

This was the first thing I ran, since it is generally very reliable. It
could not, however, get rid of this adware/winshow which is a lot more like
a worm than your typical adware. It was also resistant to Symantec
anti-virus.

What did work was lavasoft's adware remover. Lavasoft is a Swedish outfit.
Long live social democracy.

Jack is right about one thing, however. This is a lot nastier in many ways
than sasser or the average worm that sneaks in through M$'s back door.
Frankly, I can't even understand how I got it since my mom's computer,
which did have sasser, was updated with the M$ security upgrade around the
same time I got rid of sasser.

I have to reiterate. If somebody came up with adware/winshow in order to
increase somebody's profits, I wonder if they understand the first thing
about consumer psychology. I will say this. Most of the popups that this
worm unleashes are advertisements for adware removal. I would as soon
purchase software that advertises itself this in way as vote for John Kerry.
