  I was watching CNN yesterday and the "reporter" quoted Russian
sources as saying that 14 out of the 17 kidnappers killed  were of
mid eastern descent.  This suggests that they aren't "rebels" -- in
the sense of being folks with some genuine concern with the plight
of Chechnians. In all likelihood, they are from the same crop of CIA
financed "fighters"/thugs  that have been operating in Chechnia for
the last little while, terrorizing civilian populations.  They are no
different IMO to the groups of western mercenaries that had worked
to further western imperialism in Bosnia and Kosovo and prior to
that, Afghanistan.
