[Marxism] Communication Workers of America: "Troops Home SafelyNow!"
I applaud the work USLAW has accomplished with yet another national
union taking a position against the war in Iraq, a war being waged for
the benefit of the employer class against the working class.
However, I view with sadness the inability of USLAW to endorse what is
arguably the largest working class action against imperialist war
scheduled for October 17: the Million Worker March
[www.millionworkermarch.org]. It seems that USLAW vote narrowly, 9 to 8
on it's national leadership, to cave to sectarian logic that supporting
this action will somehow cut across those unions that have come out
against the war but at the same time still endorse Kerry for President.
They have done damage to themselves and their ability to win *more*
endorsements against the war by their stubborn refusal, motivated in
large part by an "Anybody But Bush" set of politics, to support this
important labor action this October.
On the other hand, many, perhaps most of the actual rank-and-file of
USLAW, have endorsed, and important locals in Washington DC and New
York are in fact the main organizers behind the MWM locally. We expect
to see dozens of local and regional USLAW banners in Washington and
perhaps then the leadership of USLAW will catch up with their
membership.
