I haven't been following this whole discussion, so I'm just dropping in
a small titbit of information.
From the article posted by David Quarter, Louis P quoted:
FACT: America has actively funded a terrorist rebel militia in the
South, known as the "Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA)," to fight
against the Sudanese government and spread disenchantment in the south
against the government in the north.
A Sudanese Communist Party comrade who I asked about the South Sudan
struggle said that, apart from working (to some extent) with the
(northern-based) SCP against the Khartoum regime, the SPLA/SPLF were
very friendly with Cuba. I don't remember how far the support extended,
I think to some material support, anyway this would seem rather strange
for a group that is controlled by the USA.
