Me: Well, that's an overstatement for effect, Carrol .... but in any case, if 
you are saying that petty-bourgeois consciousness is very widespread, then 
maybe it means that it IS a useful (and necessary) term, from a diagnostic 
point of view.  (If we lived in a society where everyone had a vitamin 
deficiency disease, wouldn't we want the vocabulary to say so?)
