[Marxism] The Cobbotage Conspiracy: It's very simple really --

1984 plus Twenty - Thursday, August 05, 2004

It's very simple really --

I always make things more complicated. I'm trying to imagine what a
well-meaning person who is so ill-informed that they intend to vote for
Kerry -- or even more, a person of good intentions with some political
smarts who is still buying into the Cobb swindle -- might be thinking. But
what is happening is really very simple.

The Imperial Ruling Class found the Nader Phenomenon that surfaced in 2000
threatening enough that they decided to "take steps" & reduce it to
insignificance.

So they activated some Southern Democrat operatives, who founded a number of
Green Party chapters in various Southern & other conservative-type
communities. They had other operatives engage in discussions with certain
Green Party elements in some of the main Green states like California, who
were ready to agree that the Greens would be better off without Nader at the
head of the ticket this time around.

Coincidentally, the most prominent among these "elements" happen to be
friendly toward Rabbi Michael Lerner and his "Tikkun" approach to "Middle
East Peace", many being identified with United For Peace & Justice and/or
Global Exchange, which have in the past contended with the ANSWER (the
person who picked that acronym must have been left-handed...!)* Coalition
for leadership of the anti-Iraq War movement.

The main pt of contention between the two sides has been the question of the
prominence that should be given the Palestine issue: whether to treat it
nearly as high a priority as Iraq itself, (ANSWER); or to keep it out of
sight as much as possible, so as not to alienate "broader forces" (U4P&J).

Underlying this tactical divergence are more fundamental differences: Lerner
& his flock do not accept the Palestinian Right of Return, but do accept the
Zionist concept denoted by the same term. Lernerites, while they give lip
service to the tired "land for peace" snowjob, & continue to peddle the Two
State Illusion as a solution to everyone's problems, are for the "right of
the Jewish State to exist behind secure and recognized borders" -- which in
actuality means they support the indefinite continuation of the Zionist
Apartheid status quo in Mandate Palestine.

Which the national Democratic Party likewise supports, of course, so it
seems natural that those within Green ranks who identify with Israeli values
should find reason to support Democrat Kerry in preference to Arab-American
Nader.**

The problem with the explanation offered above is that it depends on the
reader's acceptance of a few premises which few "average Americans" or
"liberals", even "labor liberals", are prepared to accept.

Indeed -- we know there are many who would describe themselves as "Marxists"
and/or "Socialists", who will, at the sight of the word "Zionism",
immediately become suspicious.

Even more will immediately conclude --should anybody be so foolhardy as to
suggest that there might possibly be some connection between Jewish-American
affluence and pro-Israel influence on US foreign & military policy -- that
the speaker must be a "racist fascist":)

But -- fortunately -- it is not necessary to admit to the validity of that
particular set of facts in order to grasp the main outlines of the Sabotage
Nader campaign. But it IS necessary, if any intelligent discussion is to
take place, to posit the existence of a Capitalist Ruling Class in a
capitalist-run society:)

*Or maybe a boogie-woogie pianist?

**(It is less natural perhaps -- at least on the surface -- to find an
individual such as California Green Party 5th Congressional District
candidate Pat Driscoll actively supporting the Cobb conspiracy, since Pat
has long been vociferous in his support for Palestinian rights. But maybe
from his point of view it makes long run sense -- ??

He hasn't taken me into his confidence, so possibly he's thought deeply
about it, and has calculated his position a few moves farther ahead than I
can see. So I simply note the apparent contradiction, and leave it to
others, or the passage of time, to clarify things.)
