Of course,  if Sharon hadn't spent so many years cultivating
fundamentalist
thugs in Israel then he wouldn't have to be protected from his old
friends
now.  Also, given his recent political troubles (like the corruption
charges
which were recently quashed), all this talk about threats from the
extreme
right may well be to his political benefit anyway.
