Government and Social Sectors Clash Looming in  Bolivia

La Paz, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) The debate on hydrocarbons in Bolivia
continues as a hot topic, bringing the government of President Carlos Mesa,
the  "Movement Towards Socialism" (MAS) and social organizations close to a
clash of  interests.

MAS leader Evo Morales has summoned his compatriots to march on August 30,
demanding that the July 18 referendum results must lead to the
nationalization  of gas and oil.

Morales once again criticized Mesa"s administration for agreeing to export
gas without previous approval from the new hydrocarbon law voted at the
referendum.

It is time to close ranks to recover our hydrocarbons and honor the
people"s  will, which has been expressed in the polls, and lies above the
state"s powers  and laws, the MAS leader added.

The Bolivian Workers Union (COB) questioned the official figures as
published  by the National Electoral Court (CNE), and went on to play down
the victory  trumpeted by the executive and some analysts.

COB leader Octavio Urquizo accused the CNE of being in cahoots with the
executive power and confirmed their determination to go on fighting for the
nationalization of hydrocarbons.

President Mesa, on the other hand, stated on Tuesday that the referendum
was  a defeat for those claiming that Bolivia was heading for destruction,
alluding  to dissenting radical leaders.
