[Marxism] Whatever happened to the LMers?

Last night I was watching 'BBC World', which plays through the night on
TV1 in New Zealand. At one point, up popped what the BBC newsreader
described as "terrorism expert" Bill Durodie. Under his name, it had
that he was from the Centre for Defence Studies. This morning I looked
up CDS on the net. The home page says:

The Centre for Defence Studies (CDS), part of the International Policy
Institute (IPI) at King's College London, engages in research at the
highest level on British, European and international defence and
security issues. CDS was established at King's in 1990, with a grant
from the UK Ministry of Defence. In addition to research, our mission is
to: * promote interdisciplinary approaches to security and defence
policy research * distribute research and expertise through formal
academic channels * work with UK and other governments and international
organisations * conduct corporate policy research in relevant areas *
maintain a high public profile by interacting with the media.

Our principal areas of research interest are:
* UK defence and security policy
* European defence and security
* Defence management and organisation
* Defence industry and procurement
* Regional security and new security challenges

CDS operates in three distinct, but overlapping research areas:
Academic, Public Policy and Corporate Consultancy.

We have an international staff of academic policy researchers,
practitioners, associates and visiting fellows. The CDS Director is Dr
Paul Cornish, and the Honorary Director is Professor Sir Lawrence
Freedman.

Here's an idea of the CDS publications:

CDS Policy Research papers

Current titles include:

* Singapore's Combat Aircraft Competition: a comparative assessment of
fighter acquisition options.
* The Iraq Policy Group: Transitional Authority in Iraq.
* Illegal Firearms in the UK.

Durodie is listed as a senior researcher. Interestingly, he seems to be
the only senior researcher who is not a professor or a Dr.

Presumably pimping for British imperialism is what is meant by the
catchphrase LM pushed in its last days: "Playing for high stakes".
