[Marxism] More Cornball Commentary From Dave at 'The Nation' About Kerry and Vietnam
<<The convention finale was a good night for Kerry. He delivered his speech
effectively. He smiled as well as he has ever done in public. He came across
as firm, smart, and serious. But this was also a historical moment in the
political culture. Kerry and his advisers ? including Bob Shrum and John
Marttila ? have Jujitsued the Vietnam metaphor.>>
It apparently don't take much more than a smile from the DP for David Corn
to be 'jujitsued', but Kerry's smile, Dave???? It reminds us of Fred
Munster's.
<<Finally, the Vietnam references seemed fully ? and authentically ?
integrated into Kerry's pitch, starting with the opening line: "I am John
Kerry, and I'm reporting for duty.">>
Wow! Kerry's like a liberal John Wayne to David Corn. Maybe even a liberal
Rambo, for the liberal Nation rag's wordmeister, Mr. Corn. Let's give John
a rifle and let him shoot Cheney and George down, maybe at the bird hunt or
polo match?
<<But with this speech, Kerry found an appropriate and compelling way to
enlist Vietnam in his campaign against Bush. Kerry signaled he is indeed
ready for the brutal political combat to come and that he is up to the
fight.
David Corn is the Washington editor of The Nation.>>
Talking about Vietnam reassures the trembling staff at 'The Nation' that
John will be no Al Gore! He's tough, and has even been a killer in Vietnam!
David Corn feels that Kerry can probably out arm wrestle Colin Powell down
to the floor if the time comes. When liberals get 'tough', it's truly scary.
Mr. Corn frightens me. I beleive he's fully even capable of tortruing
Republcian POWs if given half a chance.
<<These were men he served with, men he had saved, men who had seen him kill
the enemy. It was over thirty years ago. But post 9/11, all the Vietnam
references mattered. As Rassmann said, "in a tight situation... your whole
life depends on the decisions of one man." He was referring to when he had
been thrown into a river and Kerry had bravely rescued him. But he was also
speaking about the "tight situation" currently faced by the nation.>>
Thank goodness we have such good evaluative reporting at these magazines
(The Progressive and The Nation) in the US. It certainly helps the workers
know what's going on. Thank goodness the liberals care about us so.
Tony
