On Paul Dillon's question about what a Kerry Administration would look
like on civil liberties compared to Bush.

Excellent and valid points, Fred. And in addition if Kerry should be elected,
it will be he who will bring back the draft, and so double, even triple, the
numbers of the standing army. He may return some of the benefits veterans lost
under Baby Bush, but he will not nullify the cutbacks in wages of and benefits
to the active army and reserves. From his (the ruling class's) point of view,
he will not be able to afford to. There is a looming and permanent oil crisis.
If he can't overthrow the legally elected Chavez government of Venezuela
through subterfuge, for instance, he will do it by force. And, btw, if you
haven't noticed, our ruling class is revving up for the invasion of Syria and
every other major oil producing country that doesn't toe the U.S. line. These
threats are not just the threats of an out-of-control psychopath. These are
the threats of the U.S. ruling class. They may not have said much in the last
few months, but they are still thinking it, planning it. And Cuba? Kerry may
leave it alone. OTOH, he may want to make it an example of how the Democrats
do it right. Expect the U.S. to be embroiled in, not two wars as now, but
three, four, five, or one massive war against the Middle Eastern peoples and
one or more smaller ones against the Latin American.

The other day a co-worker accused me of claiming there are no differences
between Bush and Kerry. I said that wasn't so. There are differences. Kerry
is far more dangerous than Bush.

I predict Kerry will win the election because the ruling class may have learned
a lesson or two about Baby Bush's approach to world conquest. If he does,
expect the draft to be reinstituted within three months after he takes office.
The only stumbleblock I can see to the desperate dreams of our ruling class
coming to fruition is the independent antiwar movement. Let's do our best to
set the groundwork for it to become a genuine mass movement.
