[Marxism] Comment on the Nader-Dean debate
Nader not only hammered away at the rights of citizens to hear and vote
for alternate parties, but I was very pleased to hear John Anderson
speak from the floor in support of this. Howard Dean himself declared
in a general sense for the rights of to hear and vote for alternatives,
though not in this specific election..
Dean repeated Democratic slanders about Nader as a tool of the
Republicans, but the poor fellow was simply pathetic in trying to argue
that Democrats supported real reforms-I mean, he had to go back 40 years
and talk about Lyndon Johnson!!!! (This would have been like Hubert
Humphrey having to recall the good old days of Al Smith.) The fact is
that Dean's oddly liberal stance within the Democratic Party argues for
the importance of third parties. The unique situation in Bernie
Sander's Vermont has forced Dean to scramble leftwards his entire career
to keep his political balance.
Solidarity!
Mark L.
