[Marxism] Peronism, Argentina, etc.
I agree with those that balk at the misuse of the term "Fascist" to
describe every right-wing military régime in Latin America. I sometimes
like the academic term "Corporatist" to describe these sorts of
bonapartist regimes, like Perons' which sweep inside it the miltiary,
the unions -- while keeping the unions independent, but hamstrung -- to
develop beyond the narrow nationalist ideology of the leaders in power.
the Mexican PRI is the best example of this since the unions were so
institutionalized as part of the PRI organically (and this case, not so
independent).
An interesting analysis by the Chilean MIR back in the mid 1970s took
up the issue of Fascism, which opposed the application of this term to
the Pinochet remime. If anyone can find it, it would be highly
educational to post it here.
