RE: [Marxism] NACLA remembers Reagan
Reagan was very popular with the media. He was, in the end, one of
their own. People forget he didn't do that well in 1980, and most of
the exit polls indicated that the people voting for him didn't entirely
trust his Cold War reflexes, etc. Media called it "an electoral
landslide," inventing a new term to boost the prospects of Honest Ron.
Then, too, remember how Michael Deaver frankly explained in various
venues how the Reagan team made media into its ally.
Ronnie began popular at all only after John Hinckley, Jr. shot him. As
popularity-building techniques, it's a little painful but the most
reliable way to go for US presidents.
Best,
Mark L.
