Re: [Marxism] Nader ballot woes

Well, first of all, these weren't "thoughts" at all, no matter what the
source. They were simply facts (or at least, rumors, but I give them
credence).

And LouP asks:

If a lot of Democrats want to freeze Nader off the ballot undemocratically,
and a lot of Republicans are willing, for their own reasons, to accord
Nader
the democratic right to be on the ballot, what's unusual about that?

Nothing particularly, although the low percentage of independents signing
the petitions suggests to me that, whatever polls show (Nader at 4-5%,
typically), the ACTUAL vote Nader is going to get in places where he
actually gets on the ballot is going to be much lower. Which is a reflection
of the ABB sentiment.

I'm sorry if I don't have anything particularly profound to say on the
subject. Some may take it to reflect the fact that spending one's time
campaigning for Nader, vs. spending one's time campaigning for a socialist
candidate, won't end up being all that different. But, as I said, I was just
trying to pass on some interesting data and let people form their own
conclusions as to what it signifies.

As to the undemocratic nature of ballot requirements, certainly no question
about that!
