This is quite close to Imre Lakatos's rationalist view of the way science
actually develops and progresses. However, the real important question then
becomes whether there exists a point of view which can contain all the
scientifically valid results of the Marxian tradition and yet have greater
proven explanatory content, with more fertile heuristics. Because it would
be irrational in the light of this knowledge to persist in the old theory.
