[Marxism] Fwd: Israeli Military provoked Intifada

In the garrison state par excellence, the garrison now dominates the state.
Pro-Likud elements in the military sabotaged the Clinton-Barak "peace process"
but not without a wink and a nod from their allies in the US.

Implicit in the military's influence on policy described below, from our
Israeli-Swiss friend Shraga Elam, are two key elements of the US-Israeli
relationship: Since statehood, and in the name of military self-sufficiency for
expanionist "self-defence", Israel is a US dependency. State-sponsored and
subsidized
capital is oriented towards production and export of weapons and electronic
systems (avionics, specialized computer chips, intelligence-C3 software and
hardware); the beneficiaries are deeply interlocked with big US military
contractors who, together with an influential zionist lobby in the US, maintain
the
flow of US taxpayers' subsidies to their junior partners in the
military-electronics-industrial subsidiary that is Israel. Political campaign
financing is a
small down-payment for this big pay-off, especially when accompanied by big tax
breaks to the wealthy. Within Israel, each of the major parties is dominated
by warlords who represent factions in the IDF and the secuirty apparatus; they
contend for power and influence but remain subservient to their patrons in
the US. Sometimes the tail wags the dog, but the when the big dog snarls, the
runts make room at teat and trough. The overall strategic interests of the US
ruling class -- military domination over the oil-producing region -- remain the
driving force in the relationship with Israel and the other running dogs in
the mid-east, including the various Arab factions and the ever-dispensible
Kurds.
