whom?] of national rights." There are many Kurdish formulations on this, by
the way, and they are being debated even now on all sides of the borders of
Kurdistan. Saddam and the Ba'athists were, above all, Arab nationalists. It
seems
to me they ceased to be "progressive" and anti-imperialist when they took
power by killing off so many suspected communists, many of them Kurds, long
before the Iran-Iraq war instigated by the US.
