_Any_ and _every_ serious product of historical research, both left
and right, aspires to reshape (or to strengthen the current forms of,
that is, to reshape conservatively) collective memory.

Collective memory is an active social function, not a matter of idle
recalling things past.

It shapes the future as well as the past.

Those who pretend to be engaged in "aseptic historical research" are
either fools, liars, or both. There is not such a thing as "aseptic
h.r.
