The amazing thing about this story is that the media are actually reporting
it at all. When I first heard a "leader" on the local news, I assumed they
were going to claim they had some "chatter" or other "information." No, this
story is **100% pure speculation**. Rice is simply ASSERTING that this is
likely to happen, based on her specious analysis of the Spanish election.
This is NO EVIDENCE of any type backing up this claim.
The funny thing is, of course, that one can make just as strong an argument
that Al Qaeda wants to see George Bush re-elected, so he'll continue to
inflame the Muslim world and bring them new recruits. In actual fact, I
doubt Osama Bin Laden gives a rat's ass who gets elected as U.S. President
(or Spanish President, for that matter). He's smart enough to know that U.S.
policy in the Middle East and elsewhere will continue more or less
unchanged, with perhaps slight differences of nuance, no matter who's
elected.
