Re: [Marxism] Sadr appeal to US public

Does anyone have any info, however, where the secular left in Iraq is in
all this?

I guess we can pretty much count out the quislings of the Iraqi CP.

Philip Ferguson

Hi Philip

don't have any information, but the recent Amy Goodman interview with the
Arab professor was instructive. He complained about Sadr's
Arabic! Apparently it is not very impressive. Sadr's speaks vulgarly! So
much for the views and prejudices of the secular intellectual.

We have then Sadr as a poorly educated cleric leading the lumpen proles in
rebellion.

It reminds me of role of the Murphy Bros - both clerics- in the 1798
rebellion in Wexford Ireland.

"Fr Murphy from old Kilmarnock stirred up the flock with a warning cry
'Arm, Arm', he said, 'For I have come to lead you.
For Ireland's freedom we'll live or die.'"

It remains to be seen whether the rebels in Iraq can hold onto the
territory they have claimed over the last few days. I do not think so
myself. Because it is now clear that the Americans are prepared to
slaughter thousands to achieve 'full spectrum dominance'.

Nevertheless it is also clear that the whole Iraq adventure has become
spectacularly disastrous for Bush & Blair in a way that we all predicted
but did not quite believe. Leastways I did not.

BTW while I am at it, I thought Junaid's recent piece in Left Hook was
nothing short of brilliant. Such passion and clarity- all in the best
tradition of revolutionary writing.

regards

Gary
