[Marxism] Marxists and Human Rights
I am awed by your passionate response, but please do not be insulted.
The history of human rights locates "freedom of speech" as one of the
primary demands of the bourgeois revolution, and a supreme concern of
the definitive liberal John Stuart Mill.
I harbour no illusions about the inviolability of "freedom of speech" in
the capitalist country where I live. If this list actually threatened
the powers that be, I believe it would be shut down forthwith.
But the bourgeoisie do go on about free speech, don't they? As if
talking was more important than the material conditions of the
international working class, food for the starving masses, the collapse
of the biosphere, etc.
