Modern nations tend to emerge only from civil war (or wars). When that
struggle is muffled in one way or another (especially by outside force)
the results tend to be unpleasant. A key task of u.s. leftists at least
is simply to oppose u.s. intervention, anywhere, for any reason, by any
means. I myself do not speculate much on internal forces in other
nations, but I do believe that the longer u.s. forces remain in Iraq,
the greater will be the internal chaos and bloodshed in that nation when
those forces finally are forced to leave.
The subject line for this thread is probably misleading. "Decisive
showdowns" are rare, are frequently reversed and re-reversed, and
ultimately are only seen looking backwards.
