Dear Members of Parliament,

I have just been reading up on the propsed legislation to criminalize the
viewing of Arabic language satellite TV.  Surely, I must have woken up this
morning on some other planet.  What can you possibly be thinking???

What is going on in this country?  Are we all sufferring some collective
national insanity?  Is this not still a democracy?  I don't know whether to
laugh or to cry.

You are proposing that people be criminalized for watching Arabic language
information.  This would include of course not just al-Jazeera, arguably the
only non-governmental news source in the Middle East, but also channels that
focus on regular drama and comedy television.  Exactly what is your
justification for this ridiculous legislation?  Besides, your obvious racist
fear of the Arab community?  Is it perhaps, the fear that people will be
able to zone out at the end of their day to bad Egyptian programming instead
bad U.S. reality television?

Generally when I send letters to my government they are polite and
restrained, but the sheer unambiguous stupidity of this legislation is
beyond the pale.

I am outraged and appalled that our society has come to this place where
this kind of legislation can make it this far without intelligent people
realizing that the legislation is racist, a violation of several Canadian
civil rights and, of course, incoherently stupid.

Wake up!  You are asleep at the wheel.
