Aristide and Taylor, whatever their respective and multiple faults, have
this in common: both were elected Presidents driven from office with, at the
very least, US connivance.

And there is another connection between W Africa and Haiti that is worth
noting. At the same time as it gained French military support for its
operation in Haiti, the US withdrew its opposition at the UNSC to a French
proposition for the deployment of a 6,000 strong UN force in the Ivory
Coast.
