US asks UN to freeze Taylor's assets
By Mark Turner
The US yesterday called on the UN to freeze the assets
of Charles Taylor, the former Liberian president, to
stop him "using misappropriated funds and property to
interfere in the restoration of peace and stability in
Liberia and the sub-region".
Mr Taylor is in exile in Nigeria. The draft
resolution, which could be adopted next week, called
for the UN's Liberia sanctions committee to identify
and publish a list of people and entities working for
Mr Taylor and his family, and to assist countries in
"tracing and freezing the funds, other financial
assets and economic resources".Mark Turner, United
Nations
