[Marxism] RE: Nader is running...

Nader is runnnig as an independent free of the pro-capitalist Green Party
reform group. The Green Party can still run hard against the Democrats by
seeking reapproachement with Nader and endorsing his campaign and making it
once again theirs. They will not do this, and the reasons why should be
honestly faced.

It is simply that the leadership in control of the Green Party structure is
not interested in running a hard campaign that targets both the Democrats
and Republicans as being corporate parties for the rich. They want to
run a weak campaign that will keep the Green Party on the political map, yet
will not hinder the Democratic candidate from posing himself as the single
real alternative to Bushism.
Thus, the Green Party leadership is probably really a leadreship more
committed to the electoral liberal approach that will marginalize their own
party, but willl not pull liberal voters away from voting for a Kerry or an
Edwards.

Nader, himself, has shown that he is serious about running independent of
the Democratic Party
in the elections. Though, he has often given the wrong reasons out for
explanations of what motivates him to do so. He appears to feel"that
keeping them honest" is a better approach to getting a Kerry or Edwards in.
So his independence is still pretty dependent unless he changes his
announced reasons a bit.

What appears to be ahead, is a fight over who is to blame about the Green
vote being small and split in 2005? Because having both a Nader and a
Green presidential cnadidate running is bound to turn off Left voters from
"wasting" their vote with either of those 2 selections. Unless the
Green Party leadership can be convinced (or convince itself) to make Nader
their candidate again, the Green party has now been reduced to irrelevancy
in 2004. It's Kerry/ Ewards vs Bush on the tele screen.

This is the sort of mess that a party can make for tiself when it becomes
nothing more than an electoral contrivance. Its fortunes will shine or
fade based almost solely on the fotunes of its machinations in any given
moment. At this point, both the Greens and Nader appear to be strictly a
capitalist reform movement that now has split.

"Socialist Greens" will now be put to the test. Their announced reason
for even being in the Green Party has been that they were trying to weaken
the two party system. If that is truly so, they will seek for a
reallignment of the Nader/ Green Party alliance, because Nader is the
candidate that can run with the most powerful appeal at this time.

But if the approach is to strictly try to get a Camejo style socialist into
position to run as the GP presidential candidate, then they will actually be
of assist in marginalizing the Green Party both during the election, and
afterwards. Will "Socialist Greens" now seek to reunify Nader with their
party, or will they say good riddance to him? At any rate, "Socialist
Greens" are not the people who are actually in position to call the shots
here. But what they urge others to do is of interest.
