The missing link between Daddy's and Dubbya's technological fictions 
was found in Argentina yesterday.

Researchers have discovered old newspaper stories where President 
Carlos Menem, during the 1995 electoral campaign, went for a second 
term partly relying on a promise that a "spatiodrome" would be built 
in Córdoba, Argentina, with support of Lockheed Aerospace.

The firm had been recently awarded the large and historic Argentinean 
aeronautic factories of the Air Force in Córdoba, laying off hundreds 
as the first act of sensible management.

President Menem explained that thanks to the new Lockheed management, 
the plant would be associated to a mega project of spatial airplane 
which would link Córdoba and Tokyo in a couple of hours.

Well informed circles have commented that Mr. Menem adopted the idea 
from Mr. Bush's electoral promises to take humankind to Mars.  Some 
bitter critics of Mr. Menem and Mr. Bush suggested that it would have 
been better if they had taken humankind to Marx.  It was not clear 
whether they were talking of Karl Marx, German philosopher and 
politician, or Groucho Marx, American actor and philosopher.
