Hah. Let them try.
I'm only describing a general mood - I didn't say it would be easy.
The key point I'm trying to make is that there is a profound alienation
from traditional politics and traditional political institutions.
The right-wing CSU got a two-thirds majority in the provincial
parliament of Bavaria for the first time in the recent elections even
though the number of people who voted for them declined significantly.
But the number of traditional SPD voters who abstained was even greater
- the SPD got slaughtered (about 20% if I recall correctly) - and this
is the governing party at federal level.
It is likely that there will be very similar results in the large number
of provincial and communal elections this year (there are 18 different
elections in Germany this year).
And that's not taking into account the massive dissatisfaction weith the
governments neo-liberal "reform" proposals which are only now really
beginning to have an effect on ordinary people - up until now it was
relatively marginal groups who were seriously effected.
I realise that we're facing a long hard bitter struggle, but I'm not so
pessimistic that I'm p0repared to abandon all hop - which seems to be
Nestor's suggestion.
