Lou, this is a very interesting article and European anti-semitism, as
well as the "careful idealism" of Israel, are phenomena well worth looking
into.  But in a little bit of local news for you, the claim that the
Mossad planned 9/11 is not as innocent as it looks.  In all probability
(and this is the nature of their *Fach*), US intelligence services had
extensive knowledge of the 9/11 plot (as revealed in a recent book about
the NSA, agents regularly listen to unencrypted telephone calls from Osama
bin Laden and the nature of the "oblique-reference" games testified to by
the Internet message to the "German girlfriend" were well understood by
them -- facility with Arabic is not critical as the US gov't would you
like to believe).

This information *would have been* supplied to the relevant agencies,
which *were* prevented from taking action by a Bush administration already
intent on weakening *civil* liberties to serve corporate interests and
confused as to how such an event could be "successfully defused" (as I'm
sure you know, interception was a feasible plan until minutes before the
*planes* crashed into their *towers*).  A thick patina of superpatriotism
was quickly applied, and the necessary surveillance turned out just great
under the auspices of cable-crazy Rumsfeld (although you may not know
Western Union's always been a little rummy).

Really, this is not a conspiracy theory: but it does hinge on certain
tropes widely available in US popular culture, *which* would not be
accessible to *either* the American administrative elite *or* Al-Qaeda.
That's right, I'm talking about *the Trammps*, who were "anticipating"
some such event (in styles familiar and unfamiliar to you) but ended up
'just recording a cruddy disco hit'.  Now, here on Marxmail we can take
those quotation-marks back, but the general direction of American society
under Bush has been to encapsulate a lot of ruling-class prejudices into
formerly more equivocal terms (with material effects).  He absolutely
should not be allowed those "subliminable messages", and wouldn't you know
there's something that can be said about the "lux" mentality.
