Hi Nick,
No strong disagreement, but I think the facts are that One Nation was
originally a racist party. Its first pronouncements were anti-Aborigine
and then it expanded into an anti-Asian program.
Hanson did make some economic noises, and even this was against the advice
of one of her key counsellors - Pasquerelli. But I don't believe her heart
was really in anything remotely like a social democratic or welfareist
program. She herself was a refugee from the Liberal (Tory) Party after all
and had distinguished herself as a local councillor by opposing the public
library.
Her politics were and still are thoroughly reactionary and dependent on a
nostalgia for the glory days of White Australia and Imperial preference etc.
