Melvin,
Perhaps you would like to critique my recent
campaign issue statement.
Others may do so as well.
Note - I did not explicitly mention socialism or
anti-capitalism in the statement but I believe it
is implicitly anti-capitalist.
See below quote from Melvin P.

Les: My issue leaflet -
LES EVENCHICK, CANDIDATE FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE
District 93(French Quarter,
Downtown,Warehouse,Irish Channel,Lower St.
Charles St.,parts of Central City, Treme,
Esplanade Ridge, Gentilly, and Lakeside)
Ballot position: 62
The key issues my campaign are:
1. Restoration of cuts in the Charity Hospital
System. I support improved and expanded medical
care for poor and low income working persons. My
opponent Karen Carter has been silent on this
critical matter.
2. Support for an investigation into the
unreasonably high natural gas and electric prices
from Entergy. ENTERGY has been illegally
inflating prices.
3. Support for a state mandated liveable minimum
wage($10/hr would be a good start).
4. Opposition to City Council Person Jackie
Clarkson's methods of "cleaning" up the French
Quarter and other sections of the city.
While keeping the Quarter physically clean and
preserving the quality of life for residents is a
good objective, the arresting and jailing anyone
who APPEARS to be homeless, are homeless, or who
LOOK like they "don't belong on the streets", is
morally wrong and violates Federal Law. Karen
Carter has uncritically supported Clarkson.
5. Support for the immediate withdrawal of all US
military and police forces from IRAQ. This war
and occupation are not in our moral, or financial
interests. Let the Iraqi's reorganize their own
society.
6. Opposition to "high stakes testing" as a way
to solve education problems in the state. I
support higher pay to get the best teachers, and
a policy of teaching students how to think for
themselves and become problem solvers rathers
than memorizers.
7. Support elimination of all sales taxes in
favor of corporate taxes.
In general, I place human and environmental
protection above private profit.
