Response (Jim C): I honestly do not know what to think about Milosevic
or the debate going on vis-a-vis Milosevic as a "socialist patriot"
standing against U.S. Imperialism versus Milosevic as a genocidal
maniac; it is a neglected area of my education and I just don't know
what to think or what the real facts are. But I do know something about
the so-called "National Alliance" formerly the Reform Party in Canada.

Yes they came out of a tradition of "prairie populism", "Technocracy"
and the likes, and yes they appeal to some of the same types--with some
of the same rhetoric and tactics--as was found in the old
S[turm]A[bteilung] in Germany. But they are decidedly and openly
pro-capitalist, decidedly anti-Indian, decidedly racist and anti-Semitic
and I know of no attempts by them to recruit from the left; nor can I
understand how anyone resembling a leftist would have anything to do
with them--or vice versa how they would have anything to do with anyone
even resembling a leftist. Some of them attempted to approach some
Blackfoot (under the banner of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend")
suggesting an alliance against the Tories, Liberals and NDP but they
were rebuffed immediately and those Blackfoot they approached are not
known by anyone as any kind of leftists. Whereas in its early stages the
SA espoused crude forms of "socialism" and "anti-capitalism" as a cover
to try to capture declassed workers, lumpenproletariat and other
elements with some crude anti-capitalist propensities or sentiments, the
NA types do not follow this line or model.
