Re: [Marxism] Nader is to be Applauded for Departing the Green Party

Tony Abdo wrote:
"Left undiscussed in these debates about the meaning of Nader's decision to
not run as a Green Party candidate is to why he might have made the
decision? Put straight to the point, I think that Nader is more of an
anticapitalist than the Green Party is."

Raymond Chase replies to Tony:
As an anti-capitalist, I voted for Ralph Nader in the last presidential
election, and I now think it was a mistake. Nader gave a speech in Toronto
several months ago, which I saw on Canadian TV (CPAC), in which he posited
that
there are only two possible agents for reversing the impending global
ecological
disaster: (1) the CEOs of the transnational corporations whom greens must
work to get on side. Nader gave the example of the newly enlightened CEO of
Royal Dutch Shell. And (2) the market-driven innovative new corporations
which base themselves on green technology. For Nader, green capitalism and
the market economy provide the solutions. I think we are deluding ourselves
if
we think of Ralph Nader as an anti-capitalist

Read the clipping below for Nader's view on the US invasion and occupation
of Iraq.

HARTFORD (8/31/03) -- Former presidential candidate Ralph Nader said he
would have
supported an invasion of Iraq to overthrow the tyrannical regime of Saddam
Hussein to correct the United States' past support of the dictator.

"If they did it with support of the (United Nations)," Nader said at a Green
Party fund-raiser at the City Steam Brewery Café on Saturday. Nader ran for
president on the Green Party ticket in 2000.

"Saddam Hussein is our creation," Nader said.

He said the United States has a responsibility to the Iraqi people because
U.S. foreign policy put Hussein in power and allowed him to conduct a reign
of terror against his own people.

Nader accused President Bush of "high crimes" in lying to the American
people about the reasons for going to war in Iraq.
