[Marxism] Mumbai Resistance 2004
An extract from the latest newsletter of the International League of
People's Struggle, which groups together about 250 organisations:
2. On Mumbai Resistance 2004 (MR2004). As you know, the ILPS has
initiated and is co-organizing with other progressive organizations
MR2004 which will take place on January 17-20, 2004 parallel to the
World Social Forum in Mumbai.
MR-2004 is intended to gather organizations in India and from around the
world who are genuinely opposed to imperialist plunder of the world’s
resources and the wars of aggression that the imperialist countries led
by the US wage to grab resource-rich territory and impose their will on
other sovereign nations.
MR 2004 will hold a two-day seminar and a series of workshops on issues
that affect the lives of the people, a day of cultural resistance on
January 19th and a mass rally on January 20th.
We ask your support for this project. You can send representatives who
will take part in the activities of MR2004. If you cannot go to Mumbai,
you can organize an activity in your own country to coincide with the
events in Mumbai.
For more information on MR2004, you can go to:

3. International Campaign Against US Overseas Military Bases: The ICC
in its meeting on Feb. 28- Mar. 2, 2003, decided to launch an
international campaign to demand the dismantling of US overseas military
bases. This campaign was launched in an international conference held
in Chania, Greece on September 20-22, 2003. A conference communiqué was
approved and a guide for action was drawn up. An initial coordinating
committee was set up composed of representatives from the Philippines,
Turkey and Greece plus the ILPS General Secretary. A secretariat based
in Greece was set up. The main tasks for the coming months are: (1) to
build the organization for the campaign: consolidate the links to
organizations that we have reached, reach out to more
anti-bases/anti-war groups/orgs, build anti-bases campaign committees at
various levels and among various sectors; (2) carry out research and
documentation; (3) carry out actions in various countries; (4) prepare
for a bigger conference to enlarge the coordinating committee to include
representatives from other key countries in Asia, South America, Europe,
and US.
We ask you to support this campaign. We have already sent you a copy of
the communiqué of the launching conference. We would very much welcome
your suggestions and ideas on how we can carry out this campaign
successfully. Please write to the campaign secretariat at:
antibases03@xxxxxxxx and to the General Secretariat at: info@xxxxxxxxxxxx
