RE: [Marxism] Woman accusing Dubya of rape found dead
I totally agree with you Jose.
Actually, the site which I posted the article from is a total tabloid
written by a few very opinionated people. I meant to post it as a bit of
political humor sort of making fun of bad media coverage, but I accidentally
hit 'send' before I typed in a quick note at the top emphasizing the purpose
of my posting it. (sorry for any mis-communication regarding my intentions
there)
Sometimes, one just has to laugh a bit at the media. They really go from one
extreme to another! We have the news reports that seem bias and cover barely
any of the truth of what's really happening... then we have reports like the
one I posted... coming from a network that doesn't seem to have very much
solid, legitimate information at all!
Bright Blessings ~

I'm not sure that's true, that there was a local newspaper story. At any
rate, I can quite easily explain the reason why the filing of the
lawsuit wasn't covered, putting aside all conspiracy theories. And that
is that accusing someone of raping someone is libelous. Open and shut.
What about all the rape, murder and other clearly defamatory charges you
see in the newspaper every day? Such accusations are covered under a
pretty much blanket immunity from libel that attaches to reports of
official proceedings, like preliminary hearings, trials and so on. But
the filing of a lawsuit, in and of itself, isn't covered by that
immunity.
Even under the standard of "actual malice" that applies to public
figures (publishing something knowing it to be false, or in reckless
disregard of whether or not it is true) repeating or quoting this charge
--even with responses by the accused saying it is false, and even with
the disclaimer that you do not know if it is true-- is going to expose
the publication to a lawsuit that is very likely to succeed.
