On the long term effects of Saddam's arrest was RE:[Marxism] Saddam and Baathists vs radical Iraqi nationalism

I am inclined to agree with Mohammed, but on the aljazeera website there is
a picture of a demonstrator holding up a portrait of Saddam - another
stubborn fact.

But we on the Left are not the only ones confronted with stubborn
facts. Each day the resistance continues to operate and continues to
challenge the imperialists in the field. The long term effects of that on
the Arab nation will be a lot more significant than the parading of the
captured dictator. That they are making such a fuss of his capture is
really an indication of how worried the Americans have been and still are.

For they know that it has been the absence of resistance that has driven
the Arabs to shame, despair and apathy and in the case of their rulers to
open collaboration. Now it is the spectacle of resistance which will
galvanize the Arab Street into ever deepening rage and revolt.

regards

Gary
