Yes, I agree. Heinlein wrote some cracking good stories, but some others
were horrendous - both as stories and politically.
If you want to read left wing science fiction, try Mother of Demons, Eric
Flint, Baen Books, in print. Info at amazon.
I can highly recommend Ken Macleod and China Mieville. Macleod (a former
member of the British IMG) is more explicitly political, whereas
Mieville (a member of British SWP) has constructed a truly believable
but also incredibly alien world in "Perdido Station" and "The Scar".
I also enjoyed James P. Hogan's "Voyage from Yeateryear". He's also
written a few other interesting stories.
