[Marxism] A final comment on Simpson, Jackson...
From: "Eli Stephens"
The civil verdict, which only needed to be 9-3 to award money to the
plaintiffs, was unanimous
(http://www.cnn.com/US/9702/04/simpson.verdict1/index.html)
Do you really suppose 12 jurors, most but not all of whom were white
contrary to your assertion
(http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/Simpson/civiljury.html),
ALL chose to ignore the evidence just to get "revenge"? Sorry, not buying
it.

CB: Sure, given the general mentality on race in the U.S., and the
extraordinarily charged up race atmosphere (even for the U.S.)of this whole
, I don't know what to call it, media and spectacle extravaganza, I
definitely think that lots of white people wanted revenge for what they felt
was an unfair verdict from the predominantly Black jury in the criminal
trial. For one thing, most white people give almost zero significance to the
racism of the cops in the criminal trial. So, given that ,they deduce that
the verdict was biased because it took account of , for them, non-existent
or unimportant racism.
To be more specific, the legal significance of the cops' racism was it
provided a motive for their acting to frame, which contributes to reasonable
doubt.
I forgot about the Black people on the jury (if I knew, as I didn't pay
much attention to the second trial). However, they , I would expect had to
live and maybe work in the county in question, and perhaps faced retaliation
from employers or the like. That was the level of antagonism that was
widespread , created by the media focus which caused 10 of millions to have
an opinion on the case. It was like a superbowl type of thing. That is no
exaggeration of the level on which many people responded to it all.
The obvious response to your question is "do you really suppose the twelve
jurors in the criminal trial all chose to ignore the evidence ? "
