RE: [Marxism] Re: Michael Parenti
An old Red, whom I respected immensely, used to differentiate "Marxians" and
"Marxists". For him, "Marxians" were the ones for whom the weltanschaaung
and praxis of Marx, Marxists and Marxism constituted a market niche and at
conferences they could be identified as they spent their time giving
well-paid speeches, signing books and selling tapes but never deigning to
concretely link-up with the locals who had brought them in. The Marxists on
the other hand, according to the old Red, could be identified at conferences
as they sought to minimize the costs for their hosts and linked-up with,
learned from and assisted the local forces and struggles; for them, the
weltanschaaung and praxis of Marx, Marxists and Marxism was deep within them
and manifested in concrete action and struggles and not just in paid
speeches and writings.
