News: VW profits hit by weak sales and strong euro  (and charges for
abandoning plants in Brazil).

BadNews: Sixty deaths linked to J&J artery stent device.  Possible
bright spot: Cheney has one.

NotNews: US doubles values of Iraq oil repair contracts to cover rising
costs of sabotage.   Meanwhile Halliburton, on increased revenues,
reported a third quarter loss of 38 cents a share due to "discontinued
operations and continued litigation."

NoSurpriseNews:  Afghanistan's growing poppy trade fuels Taliban (and
the'economic growth' in Albania).   Production up 55 percent in
Badakhsan, stronghold of the Northern Alliance.

ItWillGetWorseNews:  Brussels warns on budget deficit breaches in EU.
General government balance is expected to deteriorate in all EU
countries. GDP growth in the euro currency zone is expected to be 0.4%
in 2003.

GoodNews: 1000 South Korean workers, in a Korean Federation of Trade
Unions organized demonstration against deployment of troops to Iraq and
anti-labor lawsuits, battle police in Seoul.
