Large landed estates, huge ranches and the like, from simply observing the way
they operate, are for the supply of others, the production is geared towards
being a net supplier of raw materials, whatever one produces. Local economics
and smaller scale production is a more "localizaed" economy and is more geared
to be what best works for the farmer or small producer. In other words, one
is to be on the receiveing end of the imperialist chain, the other is to
produce for it.
This is just my causal observation from seeing the way the land is treated in
the farming parts of 'Canada'.
