Featured this week: Protesters declare: 'Stop Bush! Troops out of Iraq!'
Strange things happened in Canberra during the US President George
Bush's October 23 visit: a hospital ward was cleared in anticipation of
a presidential emergency; bus stops and main roads were closed;
postboxes was welded shut; hundreds of cops were present; snipers were
deployed; F-16s flew overhead. Despite the intimidating atmosphere,
thousands protesters gathered to oppose the US occupation of Iraq.
Around Australia on October 22-23, more than 10,000 people protested.
