 Assuming your statement is accurate, there are a number of alternatives
suggestions as to why "most Jews" would have opposed the invasion: they
would be acting out of  concert with the majority of the population in
thinking that the war served a purpose other than to protect the interests of
a select few, wealthy individuals with ties to the oil industry; they might not
see any reason for Israel to fear Iraq, even under Saddam; They might not
want to be seen as supporting an unpopular war, and particularly one
whose cheif architecs are Zionist Jews and which has been given
overwhelming support by mainstream Jewish Zionist organizations

 IN any case, to assume the first statement based on the position on ONE
issue  is a giant leap

It like saying: if the U.S. democrats opposed some particular regressive
policy while in opposition then this must be " obvious proof"  that they are
less of the party of capitalism than the republicans. Happened before,
though obviously not the case.


AND in fact, a recent survey conducted about the issue of American Jewish
support for Israel shows that most Jews, "a full 85 percent... feel close to
Israel";

that

"Eighty-five percent of American Jews supports Israel in the ongoing
conflict (64 percent strongly support, and 21 percent support Israel), one
percent
supports the Palestinians, while four percent doesn't support either side and
9 percent supports both sides equally.";

and that

"American Jews are united in their opposition to the Saudi peace plan,
with 51 percent strongly opposed and 18 percent somewhat opposed, while
only 20
percent supports it."

Nor is this first study I've read indicating overwhelmingly sympathy towards
Israel from American Jews. Nevertheless, I think it proves the point, much
to the dissapointment of some list members, that U.S, Jews are as a whole
pro Israel.
